Welcome to the Dark Prospects LARP community. If you are here, you are probably looking for information about what we are and how you can join. Well, I think we can help you with that!

Setting:

The Dark Prospects game is a fantasy game set in Historical California. While we play in this historical setting, we are also adding the fantasy of the classic World of Darkness from White Wolf game studios. In particular, we are surrounding our prospectors and businessmen with creatures from the games Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, and Wraith: The Oblivion. Each of these games provides a unique story, gameplay, culture, and setting of its own. These lie under the primary 1850s Gold Rush setting. You can learn more about the setting here.

Game Vision:

Every game is unique in many ways and ours will be as well. Our staff, selected from you (the community), will work together with our players (also you) to fulfill White Wolf's Storytelling system goals. Our Rules team will create and refine systems which will be used by all as a common language with which you will tell us about your adventures. The staff Storytellers will create the framework for the setting and introduce conflict into your player driven tale. The reality though, like all Storyteller System games, is that the players tell the most important narratives - your legends drive this game and make this world meaningful. The story isn't the conflict, it's the character.

The Game Lead is responsible for organizing the game, but isn't the end-all-be-all of things. The core of officers consists of three departments, the Check-in, the Storytellers, and the Character Guides. While the Game Lead provides direction to the departments, they can counter through policies already in place. Each department will have a head and its own responsibilities, though they will not exist in a vacuum - they will be expected to communicate with each other in order to make the game run smoothly. Communication is key not just among staff, but with our players - we want your feedback to help us make sure we're running a game you want to play.

Character Immersion:

This game is built to allow players to immerse themselves in the setting with little reason to ever break character. The rules are designed to lend themselves to this process - we hope to avoid causing you to slip out of character to think or act. Because of this, we hope that you are able to spend the weekend fully integrated into; behaving and thinking as your character would.

New players should work with the Character Guide team, online resources, and other Staff to fully understand the setting, rules, and the game philosophy in order to create an amazing experience for themselves and every player at game. If you have access to the source material we also highly recommend you read it wherever possible to get a more in-depth understanding of the World of Darkness. The Source Material includes but is not limited to White Wolf's Vampire: The Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, Wraith: The Oblivion, and Hunter's Hunted books. Many of these can be obtained online through a variety of resellers.

Join us on the forum to learn more about who we are or ask any questions you may have. Or feel free to check out the Rules and introduce yourself to our Character Guides.

Special thanks:

We would also like to give a special thanks to the NWLarpers (Shadow Accord) gaming group for the inspiration and to Gaslight for providing the insight we needed to make this game happen.
