Open Trod (3)
Requirements: | Changeling, either DreamCraft or Wayfare, Rituals 3 |
Components: | At least 5 matching natural items (rocks or mushrooms or shrubs or branches) that have been "prepared" this game, and either a white square cloth mat containing an orange circle containing an “R” (sends Umbral characters to Realm) OR an range square cloth mat containing a white circle containing a “U” (for Realm to Umbra) and many white headbands |
Cost: | Variable |
Cast Time: | 5 minutes + 10 minutes preparation |
Purpose: | To open a gateway between realms |
To begin, prepare your items: Bring at least 5 matching items of nature (a set of rocks, mushrooms, small bushes, etc) to a glamour node or balefire. They must remain within 5 feet of the node or balefire for at least 10 minutes. Using the items in the ritual will expend their preparation, and they will need to be newly prepared before performing the ritual again. This step may be done in advance, but preparation of these items does not last between games.
Select the location where the trod will appear. Place the OOG mat at the desired location and stand in the center of the mat.
Enter Kith Form, paying any necessary costs to do so.
Arrange at least 5 of the prepared items in a circle around the mat (like a fairy circle), with the caster remaining in the center.
Recite the selected 6 line poem relating to dreams or travel:
~*~ “What though the sea with waves continual
Do eat the earth, it is no more at all;
Nor is the earth the less, or loseth ought:
For whatsoever from one place doth fall
Is with the tide unto another brought:
For there is nothing lost, that may be found if sought.” ~*~
Spend 1 Willpower and at least 1 Glamour to open the trod for an hour - for every 3 Glamour spent after the first, the trod will remain open for an additional hour.
Place a 3x5 card in a clear plastic bag with the following text:
Ritual: Open Trod Caster: (Your name) Begin Time: (Current time and date) End Time: (Expiration time of ritual, dependent on amount of glamour spent) Effect: Anyone in the [realm or umbra, chosen when ritual is cast] who steps onto the circle immediately switches sides. GLAMOUR NODE This Node is attackable and has 10 Health. If this Node reaches 0 health it ceases to function until restored to 10 Health. Using this node to switch sides will reduce the health of the node by 1 (remove 1 Node Health token from this node), to a minimum of 0. Any player with a Glamour pool may spend any amount of Glamour to restore that much health to the node, to a maximum of 10.
Place 10 tokens of some sort (may be paper, cloth, beads, etc...) in the bag; these are the Node's Health.
Place the 3x5 card next to the cloth mat (and the white headbands, if casting Realm to Umbra version). The caster is responsible for removing the mat after the ritual duration expires.
SPECIAL: Headbands must be available to move to the Umbra. If no headband is available, you simply don’t enter the Umbra (even if you have your own headband.)
~*~ When being taught the ritual, and thus creating a copy, the instructions between these markers may be changed as appropriate to the caster. Indicate here the specific poem you will use when you perform the ritual:
