Fair is Foul (3)

Requirements: Changeling, Soothsay, Rituals 3
Components: Tools of divination
Cost: 1-3 Glamour
Cast Time: 5 minutes
Purpose: Predict bad luck in a character's future (because you're giving it to them)

Tell a bad fortune to your target, by reading a horoscope, divining through cards or dice, or any other method of fortune telling. You must spend at least 5 minutes on the divination. Then, spend up to three Glamour, one for each Bad Luck card you wish to inflict on the target.

Each Bad Luck Card will state one of the following:

  • “You have bad luck. You can’t resist or dodge the next physical attack. Destroy this card once you have taken damage from a physical attack you would have otherwise resisted or dodged.”
  • “You have bad luck. Your next attack must miss. Destroy this card once you have missed with an attack.”
  • “You have bad luck. Your next Recovery will take 30 seconds longer because something interrupts you. Destroy this card once you have completed that Recovery.”
  • “You have bad luck. The next time you spend primary energy for a power, that power will not work. Destroy this card after you have spent energy for a failed use of a power. Other costs for the failed power (such as willpower, Rage or an increase in an anti-pool) will not be spent.”

The ritualist will go to STs and and inform them of the target of the ritual, and how much Glamour they spent. STs will then create a number of Bad Luck cards equal to the expended glamour (STs get to pick what each card does), and give the bad luck cards to the target and explain what has happened, but not who was responsible. Though players OOC may have a strong suspicion, in-character they don’t know what is going on. A character with Magic Awareness (STs will ask the target if they have the power) will know they have been cursed, but will not automatically know the Ritualist cursed them.

Bad Luck Cards may be negated by a Good Luck Pool created by a casting of Foul is Fair, one for one. Otherwise, the Ritual ends when the sun next rises.

A ritualist may perform this ritual only once per game on a given target.
