Rite of the Birthing Plague (1)

Requirements: 1 Ratkin and 1 Ratkin Kinfolk or 1 mortal character of a willing Player.
Cost: 5 Gnosis, and possibly the target's life
Cast Time: 2 minutes
May contribute to: Glory, Ferocity, Infamy
Purpose: Attempt to convert 1 mortal character or Ratkin Kinfolk into a full Ratkin. The target has a 1/3 chance of becoming Ratkin, a 1/2 chance of having no effect, and a 1/6 chance of being killed by the disease.

Receive permission from your victim’s player prior to beginning this ritual. You need not receive permission from the character, but permission from the player is critical. The character must be using a mortal character sheet and should be notified that if the ritual succeeds they will lose access to any Numina or other powers on their sheet aside from Gifts and Techniques. Approach the victim from an angle where they cannot see you while in Crinos and make a biting call… “Biting 1, Biting 2, Biting 3,” spend 5 Gnosis and make the call “Rite of the Birthing Plague - I pray you survive your disease, take 5 damage, nothing may heal you save for the end of this disease”. Fill out a 3x5 as follows and hand it to that player:

[Current Time]
Keep this card on you for 2 hours. Drugs cannot abate the symptoms of the Birthing Plague. You should act deathly sick for the duration. If the disease is cured, destroy this card and notify [ritualist’s name] that the Ritual has failed. You cannot gain health. At the end of 2 hours, go to ST camp and turn in this card.

When the card is turned in ST camp will roll a 6 sided die.

A roll of 1 is a botch. This means that the player should return to game. They will lose their remaining 5 health, 1 every 5 minutes. Upon reaching 0 health they enter the dying state and cannot be healed in any way. This disease can be cured, but the symptoms cannot be abated

A roll of 2-4 is a failure. This means that the player should return to game with a normal disease for the remainder of game or until cured.

A roll of 5-6 is a success. The character is converted into a Ratkin. They should convert their sheet on the spot, then head back into game and within 30 minutes go into Frenzy, entering Crinos and experiencing their First Change in game. During conversion, the player will receive a refund on Numina and other powers on their sheet aside from Gifts and Techniques, will receive 12 points in Gifts, and may buy Merits or Flaws appropriate to the Ratkin, but will not be able to spend any other XP at this time.
